What is Reversi?

The elegant flipping game on an 8×8 board: each disc you place must trap a line of your opponent's discs between your new disc and one of yours already on the board — and every trapped disc flips to your colour, often across several directions at once. If you have no legal move, your turn passes; when neither side can move, the higher count wins.

Legal squares are highlighted so you always know your options, flips animate so you can follow the swing, and the score updates live. Play the computer (three levels — Hard values corners and edges the way good Othello players do), share a device, or match online in a private room.

Tips

  • Corners can never be flipped — they are worth fighting several moves for.
  • Early on, FEWER discs is often better: it limits your opponent's replies.
  • Avoid the squares diagonally next to empty corners; they usually gift the corner.

Reversi FAQ

Is this Reversi or Othello?

The modern standard everyone plays: the fixed Othello starting position (four discs crossed in the centre) with Reversi's flipping rule — place a disc so it brackets opponent discs in any straight line, and all bracketed discs flip. Black moves first.

What happens when I cannot move?

Your turn passes automatically (the game tells you). When neither player has a legal move — usually a full board — discs are counted and the majority wins; equal counts are a draw.

Is Reversi free?

Yes — 100% free with no account required.

Does it work on mobile?

Yes, it is designed for phones first and works on tablets, laptops and TVs.
