What is Solitaire?

The solitaire that lived on every office computer, done properly for a phone: seven columns, a stock, four foundations, and the real Klondike rules — alternate colours descending in the columns, Ace to King by suit on the foundations, Kings only into empty columns. Tap a card and it goes where it belongs; drag if you prefer the old way. Undo any mistake, ask for a hint, and let Auto finish sweep the last cards up once everything is face up.

Choose Draw 1 for a relaxed game or Draw 3 for the classic challenge. Every day there is a shared daily deal, identical for everyone, so you can compare times and move counts with a friend — win it and your streak grows. New deal gives you unlimited random games. One honest note: like a real pack of cards, not every Klondike deal can be won.

Klondike solitaire rules

AreaWhat goes there
Tableau (7 columns)Build down in alternating colours: a red 6 on a black 7. Move one card or a whole face-up run. Only a King (or a run starting with a King) may fill an empty column.
Foundations (4)One per suit, built up from Ace to King. The game is won when all four reach the King.
StockThe 24 cards left after dealing. Tap to turn one (Draw 1) or three (Draw 3) onto the waste; when it is empty, tap again to turn the waste back over.
WasteOnly the top card can be played, to a foundation or a column.

Draw 1 vs Draw 3

Draw 1 turns one stock card at a time, so every card is reachable and most deals can be won with care. Draw 3 turns three at once and only the top is playable, which is the version in the old Windows game and the one serious players mean by “solitaire”. Both modes here share the same daily deal, so pick the one you enjoy and compare times with friends on the same setting.

Strategy that actually helps

  • Expose hidden cards first. A move that flips a face-down card is almost always better than one that does not.
  • Do not empty a column without a King ready. An empty column is only useful if a King (ideally one with a long run under it) can take it.
  • Hold back low foundation cards when a 2 or 3 might still be needed to park a column card; Auto finish will sweep them up at the end.
  • Play from the longer column when two columns offer the same card: the one with more face-down cards underneath is worth more.

How to play Solitaire

  1. Pick Today's deal (shared by everyone) or New deal, and Draw 1 or Draw 3.
  2. Tap a face-up card to send it where it fits (foundation first, then a column), or drag it and the run under it.
  3. Columns build down in alternating colours; only a King goes into an empty column. Tap the stock to turn cards; tap it again when empty to recycle the waste.
  4. When every card is face up, Auto finish moves the rest. Undo and Hint are always available.

Tips

  • Turn over face-down cards before anything else — a column with hidden cards is where the game is won or lost.
  • Do not rush Aces and twos to the foundation if you might need them to park cards in a column.
  • Keep an empty column for a King you actually need, not the first King you see.

Solitaire FAQ

What are the rules of Klondike solitaire?

Seven columns hold 28 cards, only the top one face up. Build the columns down in alternating colours (a red 7 on a black 8), move single cards or whole runs, and put Kings into empty columns. Build the four foundations up from Ace to King by suit. Turn cards from the stock one or three at a time; the game is won when every card is on a foundation.

Is the daily deal the same for everyone?

Yes. The daily deal is generated from the date, so everyone who opens it that day gets the same cards in the same order. Solve it and your streak (kept on this device) goes up.

Can every deal be won?

No — some Klondike deals are impossible no matter how well you play, especially with Draw 3. That is part of the real game. Undo lets you try a different line, and New deal is always there.

Is Solitaire free?

Yes — 100% free with no account required.

Does it work on mobile?

Yes, it is designed for phones first and works on tablets, laptops and TVs.
