What is Ludo?

The Ludo every Indian living room knows, with the rules written down so there are no arguments: roll a 6 to bring a token out (with one extra turn for the 6), race clockwise around the board, capture opponents by landing on them — except on the eight safe squares (the four starting squares and four starred squares) — and bring all four tokens home, entering the home column only by exact roll. Three 6s in a row forfeit that move. Rules are shown in the game and never invented mid-match.

Seat 2–4 players any way you like: humans passing one phone, computer players with an honest 'plays sensibly' strategy (capture first, escape danger, race the leader), or a live online room where each friend plays from their own phone via room code, link or QR. Finishing order is tracked for bragging rights beyond first place.

How to play Ludo

  1. Seat 2–4 players: humans, computer players, or friends online via room code / QR.
  2. Roll a 6 to bring a token out of your yard — the 6 also gives an extra roll.
  3. Move any of your tokens by the roll. Landing on an opponent captures it back to its yard — except on the 8 safe squares (★ and starting squares).
  4. A capture earns an extra roll. Three 6s in a row forfeit that move.
  5. Enter your home column by exact count. First to bring all 4 tokens home wins; play continues for the places.

Tips

  • Spread your tokens — one token racing alone gets captured the week you need it most.
  • Safe squares (marked ★) cannot be captured — plan rests there.
  • A capture earns an extra roll: sometimes the aggressive move is also the fast one.

Ludo FAQ

Which Ludo rules does this use?

The standard set, documented: 6 to enter (extra turn on every 6, three 6s in a row forfeit the move), captures on landing except on the 8 safe squares, a capture grants an extra roll, home column by exact count, first to bring home all 4 tokens wins, and play continues for 2nd and 3rd place. Blockade rules (two-token walls) vary regionally and are NOT enforced in this version — two of your tokens may share a square visually but do not block opponents.

Can 2 or 3 play, or is it 4 only?

2, 3 or 4 seats — any mix of humans and computer players. In online rooms, 2–4 friends each play from their own phone.

Do I need an account for online Ludo?

No. Create a room, share the code or QR, play. Refreshing reconnects you to the same game.

Is Ludo free?

Yes — 100% free with no account required.

Does it work on mobile?

Yes, it is designed for phones first and works on tablets, laptops and TVs.
