What is Hot Potato?

Hot Potato is pure panic in the best way: pass a ball, cushion or actual potato around the circle as fast as you can while the phone ticks — slowly at first, then faster and faster — until it explodes at a moment nobody can predict. Whoever is holding the potato when it goes BOOM is out (or, in forfeit mode, has to do something silly).

Pick a timer range from short bursts of 5–15 seconds to nail-biting minute-long rounds, choose Kids, Family or Party forfeits, and add names so the screen tracks the survivors and crowns the last player standing.

What the screen does for you

Hot Potato on AllPartyGames.com is the referee, not the whole game: it gives the host Start, Pause / resume, Tap names to eliminate / undo, Next round, while you bring a soft ball, cushion or beanbag (the "potato") and this screen for the ticking. Tap the ? button inside the game for these rules at any time, or 📺 for TV mode on a big screen.

How many players?

Hot Potato works with 3–20 players and a typical round takes about 5–15 min. Recommended age: 5+.

Tips

  • Turn the sound on before you start; music and buzzers are a big part of the fun.
  • Fullscreen on a TV or laptop turns the game into a proper party screen (TV mode).
  • Use the player names so eliminations and the champion are tracked for you.
  • Younger kids? Pick the Kids mode — slower, friendlier, no sudden surprises.

Hot Potato FAQ

What can we use as the potato?

Anything safe to throw: a soft ball, a cushion, a rolled-up sock, a beanbag — or a real potato if you are brave.

Is the explosion time really random?

Yes. The game picks a secret time inside your chosen range using the browser's secure random generator, so even the host cannot predict it.

Do I need any equipment for Hot Potato?

Only what the physical game needs (chairs, a ball, a room to move in) and one phone, tablet or laptop. The screen does the hosting: music, timers, commands and scoring.

Does the music come from the site?

Yes — the party music is generated live in your browser, so nothing is downloaded and there are no copyright problems when you play it at an event.

Can I run it from a TV?

Yes. Open the game on a laptop or phone connected to the TV and press Fullscreen. Everything scales up for the big screen.
