What is Random Name Picker?
A random name picker that remembers who has already been picked. Paste the names once, press Pick, and a fast shuffle stops on one name with a big reveal. With No Repeats on (the default), that name is set aside until everyone has had a turn, which is what makes it fair for classrooms, raffles, secret-santa draws, who-presents-first and “whose turn is it to do the dishes”.
It is the plain, general-purpose picker. The Random Student Picker is the same engine tuned for teachers; Pick a Winner adds a drum-roll and confetti for giveaways; the Wheel of Names is the spinning version for when you want a slower, more visual draw.
Where a no-repeat name picker earns its keep
- Meetings: pick who gives the first update — nobody can hide, nobody is always first
- Classroom cold-calling: every student gets exactly one question before anyone gets a second
- Group projects: pick the presenter, then the note-taker, from the same list
- Raffles and lucky draws: paste the ticket holders, pick as many winners as there are prizes
- Game night: pick who goes first in each round, with no repeats until everyone has started once
- Chores: pick the person, then use the Chore Wheel for the job
- Secret Santa (simple): pick names one at a time and write them down — or use the Secret Santa Generator for the full matching
- Team captains: pick two names, then let the Team Generator split the rest

Tips
- Set the counter to 2 or 3 to pick several names in one go — three winners, two volunteers.
- The list is saved in this browser, so a teacher sets it up once per class.
- Put it in fullscreen so the whole room sees the same reveal at the same moment.
- Turn on "No repeats" for classrooms or raffles so everyone gets one turn.
- Use Pick Several to choose multiple winners in one go.
Random Name Picker FAQ
Does the random name picker avoid repeats?
Yes. With No Repeats on, each name is picked at most once until the whole list has been used, then the list resets automatically. Turn it off for a draw where the same name can win twice.
How many names can I paste?
Hundreds. Paste one name per line, or separate them with commas; blank lines are ignored.
Is the pick really random?
The name is chosen by the browser’s cryptographic random number generator before the shuffle animation plays, so the animation never influences the result.
Can I reset the picked names?
Yes — Reset Round clears the "already picked" list without deleting your names.
Does Random Name Picker avoid repeats?
When "No repeats" is on, each entry is picked at most once until the list is exhausted, then it resets.
Can I pick more than one?
Yes — set how many to pick and all are chosen at once, without duplicates.
