What is 2248 Merge?
If 2048 is about sliding, 2248 is about drawing. Start on any tile and drag a line through neighbouring tiles — in any of the eight directions — that show the same number; once your chain's total passes the next power of two, you can also link that number. Release and the whole chain collapses into a single tile worth the total rounded up: three 4s become 16, two 64s become 128. Everything above falls, fresh numbers drop in, and the board never fills up.
The daily challenge gives everyone the same board and the same 60 moves — a fair race for the highest score and biggest tile. Endless mode just keeps going, with your best score and biggest tile remembered on this device. No timers, no lives, no sign-up.
How merging works
The chain’s numbers are added up and the result is rounded up to the next power of two. A few examples:
| Chain | Sum | Result tile |
|---|---|---|
| 2 + 2 | 4 | 4 |
| 2 + 2 + 2 | 6 | 8 |
| 4 + 4 | 8 | 8 |
| 4 + 4 + 8 | 16 | 16 |
| 8 + 8 + 8 + 8 | 32 | 32 |
| 64 + 64 | 128 | 128 |
| 128 + 128 + 256 | 512 | 512 |
2248 vs 2048
Both use powers of two, but 2048 is a sliding game where every swipe moves the whole board and the challenge is not running out of room. 2248 is a drawing game: you choose exactly which tiles merge, the board refills from the top, and it only ends when you decide (or, in the daily, after 60 moves). 2048 rewards discipline; 2248 rewards spotting long chains.
The daily challenge
Everyone gets the same starting board and the same sequence of new tiles. You have 60 merges; the score is the sum of every tile you created, and the biggest tile is shown beside it. Playing the daily again is practice — share your first run.

Tips
- Long chains beat many short ones: five 8s make 64 in a single move, where pairs would take four moves.
- End your chain where the big tile is useful — next to other big tiles, usually near the bottom.
- Keep small numbers near the top where new tiles arrive, so they have something to merge with.
2248 Merge FAQ
What are the rules of 2248?
Connect two or more adjacent tiles — horizontally, vertically or diagonally — that show the same number. As the chain's sum grows past the next power of two, you may also connect a tile of that value. When you release, the chain merges into one tile equal to the sum rounded up to a power of two (2 + 2 + 2 = 6 → 8).
What happens when I run out of moves in the daily?
After 60 merges the daily ends and your score and biggest tile are shown. Everyone gets the same starting board and the same new tiles, so scores are comparable. Play again counts as practice; the daily result is your first run.
Can the board get stuck?
Almost never — with eight directions of adjacency there is nearly always a pair. If there truly is no merge, the board reshuffles itself.
Is 2248 Merge free?
Yes — 100% free with no account required.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes, it is designed for phones first and works on tablets, laptops and TVs.
