What is 2048?

The 2014 classic, done properly: swipe (or use the arrow keys) to slide every tile, equal tiles merge and double, and a new tile appears after each move. Build 2 into 4 into 8 all the way to the 2048 tile — then keep going for 4096 and beyond in solo endless mode, with your best score saved and a one-step undo when a swipe goes wrong.

The twist here is racing. Challenge the computer and watch it genuinely play its own board beside yours — three honest speeds from Casual to Blitz — or open a private room and race a friend online: first player to build a 2048 tile wins, and if both boards jam first, the higher score takes it.

Tips

  • Pick a corner and point your biggest tile at it — most swipes should be the two directions that feed that corner.
  • Never swipe away from your corner unless nothing else moves; one stray move can bury the big tile.
  • Keep a full edge row ordered large-to-small: merges then cascade like a zip.

2048 FAQ

How do you play 2048?

Swipe up, down, left or right (or use the arrow keys / WASD). Every tile slides as far as it can; two tiles with the same number that collide merge into their sum, and each move spawns a new 2 (occasionally a 4). You win by creating the 2048 tile — the game continues past it in solo mode — and lose when the board is full with no merges left.

How does the 2048 race work?

Each player plays their own board — same rules, live at the same time. Against the computer you can watch its board play beside yours at an honest speed you choose. Online, share a private room code, link or QR with a friend: first to reach 2048 wins, and if both boards die first, the higher score wins.

Is this the original 2048?

It is our own implementation of the classic open-source game mechanic Gabriele Cirulli made famous in 2014 — same rules, same feel, plus the race modes.

Is 2048 free?

Yes — 100% free with no account required.

Does it work on mobile?

Yes, it is designed for phones first and works on tablets, laptops and TVs.
