What is Word Connect?
Five to seven letters sit on a wheel. Swipe through them to spell a word and, if it is one of the hidden answers, it drops into the crossword-style grid above; find them all to clear the level. Longer words score more, real words that are not in the grid still count as bonus words, and Shuffle rearranges the wheel when your eyes go blank.
There is a daily puzzle — identical for everyone that day — for your streak, and numbered levels you can play one after another. The dictionary (about 22,000 everyday English words, nothing rude) lives in the page, so there is nothing to download and the game keeps working on a weak connection.
How the levels are built
Every level starts from a common five-, six- or seven-letter word. The game finds all the shorter everyday words hidden inside its letters and keeps the ones most people know as the grid words; anything else in the dictionary counts as a bonus word. Because the base word is chosen from its level number, level 12 is the same for everyone, every time.
About the dictionary
About 22,000 everyday English words (British and American spellings both accepted), checked against a word-frequency list so obscure Scrabble words do not block you and rude words never appear. The dictionary loads as one small file the first time you play and is kept by the browser afterwards.
