What is Seating Chart Generator?
A new seating chart used to mean an evening with sticky notes. This generator takes the class list (paste it once, it is remembered on your device), a room layout — rows of desks, group tables or pairs — and two optional rules: students who must sit apart and students who should sit at the front. Tap Shuffle and it draws a fair random chart that honours the rules; tap two seats to swap them by hand.
Print it, copy it as text into your planner, or leave it on the board while the class files in. Nothing is uploaded: the list lives only in your browser.
How to make a classroom seating chart that works
Random charts are fairer than teacher-picked ones and students know it; the rules are what make them workable. Keep the two who cannot stop talking apart, put the student with glasses at the front, and let the generator handle the rest. Change the chart every three or four weeks so everyone sits with everyone.
Rows, tables or pairs?
- Rows of desks: tests, direct teaching, quiet work. Set seats per row to match the room.
- Group tables: project work and discussion; 4–5 per table keeps every voice heard.
- Pairs: partner reading and peer marking; the generator pairs strong with strong unless you keep two apart.
Exam seating
Choose Rows, add keep-apart pairs for anyone who should not sit together, print the chart and tape it to the door. The same list works next time with one tap of Shuffle.
Privacy
The class list is saved only in your browser on this device. Nothing is uploaded. Clearing the browser data removes it.
