What is Last Letter Game?
The Last Letter game, as played in cars and classrooms: say a word that begins with the last letter of the previous word — apple, elephant, tiger, rabbit — and keep the chain going against the timer. The phone shows the required letter, tracks the chain, catches repeats and knocks out a player who stalls. This page starts at the Kids level: 25 seconds a turn, three lives, and two-letter words allowed.
Shiritori is the Japanese version with its own rule about words ending in “n”; Word Chain is the general page with Kids, Family and Hard levels.
Last Letter variations for children
- Animals only: every word must be an animal — the classic school version
- Foods only: apple, egg, grape, elephant is out
- Two syllables minimum for older children
- Team chain: the whole class builds one chain; a stall starts a new one
- Written version: each child writes the next word on the board
- Theme by letter: the first word sets the theme (if it is a country, all countries)
- Alphabet chain: the words must also move through the alphabet A, B, C…
- No-repeat memory: the chain must be recited from the start before adding a word
